🖤⚡️ June 1, 1970 — The U.S. meets the Prince of Darkness. ⚡️🖤
54 years ago today, Black Sabbath’s self-titled debut album dropped in the U.S.—and heavy metal officially had a birthplace.
Released earlier that year on Friday the 13th (naturally) in the UK, Black Sabbath unleashed something raw, dark, and completely new. Recorded in a single day with no overdubs, it was grimy, bluesy, and ominous as hell—like a horror film set to riff.
☠️ Thunder cracks.
☠️ Church bells toll.
☠️ Tony Iommi strikes that first devilish tritone.
Boom.
A new genre was born.
With tracks like “N.I.B.”, “The Wizard,” and the chilling title track “Black Sabbath,” Ozzy, Iommi, Geezer, and Bill summoned something that hadn’t existed before: pure, unfiltered doom.
This wasn’t just music—it was a warning.
And we’ve been headbanging ever since.
👑 The godfathers of metal made their U.S. debut on this day—and nothing’s been the same since.
